Today is April 25. 25 days since Easter.

This rabbit is stray number 39. The 39th stray caught in 25 days since Easter. Thank you to the good Sam who found and is temp fostering.

*we also have a mom guinea pig, 2 male pups born April 1st, and the dad. And most likely mom is pregnant again and, she is a petstore baby herself.

I seriously pray for the day this cycle ends.

Buddy. This boy is amazing and one of our original crew.. His calm demeanor is wonderful with special abled dogs. He is 9 and still fearful of going to the vet, so we keep him comfortable with medication. We are ever grateful for Dr Sullivan who has treated him his whole life, and just "knows", this gift makes life less stressful for us too ❤️

And thankfully all of his lumps were non cancerous too.

Friends, we need your help-

The Moon Dog Farm has agreed to take on one of our biggest yet. A few weeks ago, we were asked to save a dog that was URGENT. With her back end paralyzed, her options had expired, Tippy’s time had run out as no one was coming for her. Medical cases like Tippy’s are the mission of MDF and we stepped up to help. It may be a long shot, but we are going to see if we can get her to walk. We always believe in keeping faith.

Tippy needs additional medical testing/treatments/therapies to assess her spine, hips and legs as well as supplies (diapers, incontinent pads, foam cushions, drag bag) . Since Tippy is not a small dog, picking up or carrying her is difficult and not realistic for long term. She is being trained to use a new wheelchair but getting her to walk is our ultimate goal. She is a stoic and brave, sweet girl who deserves a second chance at a happily ever after. Tippy never gave up and neither are we!

The Moon Dog Farm would like to thank everyone that has rooted for Tippy since she was confiscated as an abuse case at The Anti-Cruelty Society. While it may not seem like it now, she is one lucky pup.

We will continue to keep you updated as her new journey unfolds.

Last week our friends at Petsmart called. These tiny pups were dumped in a box at their store with a sign that said 1 for $15, 2 for $20. We agreed to take them and juggled some space and thankfully had adoptions.

HOORAY for Adoptions!
Momma Petunia's baby girl Alice, was adopted to a Emily, a friend of ours from PetSmart who had helped us for years with adoptions. It was wonderful to hear from her as their resident pig's partner had passed and they were ready to welcome another.
Daisy was one of the 13 we took with Critter Coral, she was adopted to bond with MDF alum Bella Donna, and as you can see, is settling in lovely.
Penelope went to a foster to adopt home to bond with MDF alum, Kirby and to also live with MDF alums Cauliflower and Kale, she is so spoiled by our friend Dr. Rupp
After much decompression and additional attempts, Hera and Monty broke their bond. While we are sad for that broken bond, Hera (now Maggie) was adopted by MDF friend Erin who speaks Diva when it comes to rabbits. Erin had MDF alum Lola. Lola was a total diva and Hera is a diva in training. Hera has shown much interest in MDF alum Gus. We hope with time, they will have a bond too. (Gus speaks Diva too).
Dolly and Stella were adopted by an amazing family who did their homework, attended a talk we were honored to participate in at the Niles Library, and waited patiently for the perfect match of pigs. These girls are loved by a darling human named Stella who wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up, and she will be an exceptional one, we have no doubt. Stella was all in with decisions with mom and dad and is an amazing pig guardian already.
John Lennon + Paul McCartney were adopted by an amazing family who saw our post and welcomed these senior gents into their hearts and home and are loving their new lives. Thank you Joddi for saying yes as first time pig adopters to an older pair. They are perfect and we are ever grateful.
Loki is part of the Marvel group. He was adopted by a lovely couple who had lost their male rabbit and had a grieving female. He is settling in well and the bonding process will begin!

Update on Miss Jellybean. This dollbaby is doing great given her spinal issues. She loves her hay, greens and pellets, and will hop right over for an oxbow treat. We have spaced her brushing sessions so that we don't stress her too much. Despite all she has been through she is an absolute love ❤️

HOORAY for Adoptions!!

In February, Hannah arrived to a local shelter so scared, she was pancaking in the carrier. She had a rough beginning. Fast forward - after lots of patience, care and love in her foster home with Linda + Lauren, she was ready for adoption!

During that time, Angella + family have MDF alum Smores and knew it was time to get her a friend and reached out.

The rest, as we say is history! Here is Hannah getting adjusted in her new home! The girls are starting meet and greets next week.

These stories make rescue worth it!

HOORAY for Adoptions! Nora was surrendered to us w

HOORAY for Adoptions!
Nora was surrendered to us with her pups, one boy, one girl. Once weaned, the boy pup went on to bond with another male, and the girl pup went into a great home too, with a promise to adopt another female when we had one ready.

Nora had suffered a trauma prior to her arrival here so we wanted to make sure she was in a home with a quiet, gentle friend. We called MDF alum Susan and family to see about bonding Nora with Pearlie, (Pearlie is blind in one eye) Susan said yes! and the girls bonded.

Fast forward, Nova (Nora's sister) became available as her owners wanted what was best for her and that was a friend. We circled back to Nora's pup Pepper's family and they said YES!

My heart is bursting as this entire little family are all living their best lives bonded with guinea pig friends. Thank YOU to all our adopters for helping these worthy pigs have their happily ever after.

Update on Jellybean. The good news: she is eatin

Update on Jellybean.

The good news: she is eating all she can, drinking and we have seen the tiny dehydrated poops increasing in size as her body is rehydrating. She was given sub q fluids, pain meds and a supplement for joint flexibility. Thankfully no fleas or ticks were found, however Doctor Valdes applied an anti parasitic as a precaution (we do this with all stray rabbits). Her eyes were flushed of the material build up and thankfully too, the tear ducts are normal.

The not so good news: we had xrays taken and there are some old injuries to the right side of the ribs and also the spine, significantly the spine. There are two 90 degree angles in the spine compared to what is expected for the spine. This indicates an old injury. Thankfully, this injury didn't did not sever the spinal cord. This little girl has sustained alot of trauma in her life- and that was prior to being left outside to fend for herself, where she would have died.

She is comfortable and is resting on a towel with a warm bottle for the night to help keep her temperature regulated. We want to give BIG thank our friends at Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital for all they did today, Dr Valdes and team jumped right in to assisting this precious girl and getting her on the road to healing.

To Jelly Bean's finder, Annette-- we believe many are put in places for the right moments, and you certainly were today in finding her. Thank you collecting her and getting her to CE for urgent care. We know you understand as you rescue yourself.

Today, is one more example of the village it takes to rescue an animal. Gosh, we are so blessed and grateful for all of you in ours. ❤

And these 3 are on their way in too. Abandoned in this tub in Harvey except the tub had turned over and 1 was on the outside staying close when found by a good sam. Thank God for fosters. Once we know more about them we will post.

This gorgeous girl is Sweet Pea. She just arrived

This gorgeous girl is Sweet Pea. She just arrived to us from our friends Michiana Humane Society. She has sore hocks and requires additional veterinary treatment. Sore hocks can and will occur when kept on metal, wire and in environments that have hard bottoms with no cushion or plastic cage types with bottoms. (contrary to those who have said in groups that rabbits are "fine" on said surfaces.)

This week alone we have committed to 5 additional rabbits in our program. If you would like to help contribute to their care, we would be ever grateful.

Here is another example of what happens when you abandon your rabbits outside.
This girl was found in a park in downtown Chicago by a good sam, thanks Annette! She rushed her to our friends at Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital. She is very thin as she was starving, has an accumulation of feces on her back leg, crusty eyes, points on her teeth (we are hopeful that is due to her not having enough food to grind down) and she is cold, we are hoping now that she is stabilizing she will be able to regulate temperature. We will update later. THANK YOU to CE for always being there for us!

Occasionally we take owner surrenders, we would like to take more- however, the number of strays makes that difficult and we always want to support the shelter system in helping keep space open. Penelope just arrived after a considerable wait on our list.

HOORAY for Adoptions! On October 30, Momma Winni

HOORAY for Adoptions!

On October 30, Momma Winnie and her four 7 day old kits and Momma Autumn and her 6 newborn kits were left in a box on a walking trail in NWI in freezing temperatures. Thankfully a good sam found them and reached out to us. Young rabbits are in rescue programs for 5 to 6 months before they are fully vetted, spayed/neutered and ready for adoption. These adorable kits have grown into wonderful buns, with calm, gentle demeanors.

Sydnie reached out as a first time adopter and has been fabulous to get to know. She had done a great deal of research and asked great questions, not only on husbandry, on behavior too. We got to know one another as she waited patiently for Hawkeye and Kamala to be available. Here they are as a bonded pair loving their new life!

Thank you Sydnie for all you did to prepare and welcome them into your heart and home! ❤ they are so blessed to have you.

Meet Faline and Calvin. They arrived last week fro

Meet Faline and Calvin. They arrived last week from a southern IN shelter who did all they could to find them homes, and when they were unable to, Faline and Calvin became urgent. We were tagged in the post and shared we needed a foster home, and someone to meet transport and then we could take them into our program.

With grace from above, an experienced foster home stepped up, THANK YOU Sarah! These cuties need vetting, spay, neuter, microchips, vaccines and eventually homes 🙂 Please help us help them onto their next chapter of a hoppily ever after. No amount is too small!
