7 precious lives are now part of MDF!

Oreo and Butters are bonded pair. Oreo is an 5 year old male. I opened up the habitat, we walkwd over and I fell for him immediately, he reminds me a bit of Gigi

We have a new resident male bun to bond with Cinnamon our flemmie- we are thinking of names. REW (ruby eyes white rabbits are THE most amazing breed)

HOORAY for Adoptions - Post 3

In September, Guy made his way to us. He was found as a stray in a box in front of a Dunkin Donuts. He is a great pig with an awesome personality and friendly. We often times will neuter our males when we have a number of singles to help them find homes with females.
Alicia and her daughter inquired about another pig and once we shared about Guy, now Dunkin! :) he was scooped up and home. Look how content he is! Great news is when they add a mate, bonding with a female will be much easier for all.

Peanut Butter made her way to a local shelter. She is young, super loving and precious. Rachel was looking for a friend for her older female pig, Waffle. She came to meet PB and that was it! Love at first sight. Here is PB right after she got home with Rachel. She fit right in. Thank you as always Alyssa for fostering!

Harry Osborn was offered up on FB in July in a plastic reptile box. "FREE- porch pickup". Heidi saw the post, immediately saved him and gave us a call for placement, great news is she offered to foster too. Harry thrived with her care. Amanda and her family had recently lost their older pig, after grieving, she reached out to bring in another. Harry is a great match for their pig and family. My most favorite part of this adoption was when Amanda and her son came to meet me for Harry, her son leapt out of the car, ran over to me opened arms and hugged me as tight has he possibly could - he was THAT happy and thankful. Heidi, thank you for fostering!

HOORAY for Adoptions- Post 2 Ember + Amber remain

HOORAY for Adoptions- Post 2

Ember + Amber remained as a pair of the group of strays we took in back in October. This litter of buns were some of the best we have had. Their dispositions are so sweet, loving, playful and affectionate. Christina and her daughter Abby, were looking for a pair as they wanted to start out with 2 already bonded, versus going through the bonding process. We sent the video of these 2 girls and that was it! HOME! Big thanks to Maggie for fostering, she is always a YES to a foster pair for us.

Rudy (now Max) was found as a stray in a local suburb and brought to safety with friends in dog rescue. This little man is ALL personality. He wants to be in the thick of the action. Tracy and her son applied to foster a rabbit. We told them how awesome Rudy was, and that was it, no chance of foster failing, they went straight for ADOPTION! This photo of him is after I dropped him off. Little man was HOME! Elena + Jen, thanks for reaching out for placement.

HOORAY for Adoptions!! Post 1 of 3

We have been off to an INCREDIBLE start of 2025!

Unicorn + Rainbow were class pets for 2 years and then no longer wanted at the school, families didn't want to adopt them either. During that time, Sarah and her family applied for a pair of of pigs. Once we sent photos of these precious boys, that was it. ADOPTED!

Baby + Mocha were surrendered to us over a year ago. We honestly thought they would be sanctuary pigs. NOPE! Jeromy and his family saw a video Alex created of these older gents, and the rest is history! Big thanks to Maggie, and then Alex for fostering these darling senior boys. They are home!

Princess + Cookie had caught the eye of Chandler when they were at a local shelter, and then we had pulled them. Chandler applied to adopt a pair, we got to talking and I shared we had a few pairs that weren't uploaded yet, one being Princess + Cookie, it was meant to be! Chandler adopted on the spot. Thank you Gianna for fostering these lovely girls.

In July, we picked up Gigi from a local shelter. S

In July, we picked up Gigi from a local shelter. She was the perfect blend of sweet and social. This girl was in everyones business. Every day, she went over to say hello to the buns and pigs in the room. She was the happiest pig I've met.

She was also full of inoperable lumps and bumps. She had a slightly unusual gate due to a lump in her inner thigh that never stopped her.. We knew she would sanctuary here, and she, like the other females that sanctuary here, found a love connection with our lethal white blind and deaf, Snowy.

Early evening, Gigi passed away in her hidey hut. She laid down to sleep and didn't wake. Hundreds and hundreds of pigs have come through our doors, none remotely close to Gigi. This little girl was one hell of a special pig.

The hardest part is always saying goodbye.

In April of 2023, our friends at Trio Animal Foundation took in Snuffy. This senior boy was left in a plastic box in the back of an alley dragging and unable to walk. Scott and I asked Sue to foster, and then we foster failed and adopted him. I cannot tell you how much I adored this boy. They all get in deep, Snuffy - all the more.

This past August, Snuffy was having some breathing issues, we had echo done and learned he had pulmonary hypertension and his heart valves were affected too. We began meds that helped him live his life comfortably, and, we knew this day would come. These past 2 days, he slowed way down - he struggled to get up, then couldn't get up, and overnight he fainted twice and struggled to catch his breath.

We closed December with these cuties moving into their new homes and we couldn't be happier for all.

MDF is blessed to have an incredible team of- always say YES fosters, relationships with our local shelters, transporters that help get these creatures to us, you- our followers- who share our posts and support our creatures, the veterinary team that provides the very best compassionate care to get them all adoption ready, and the amazing adopters who find us- by way of mouth, FB, Insta or Petfinder to adopt.

Clifford the Big Red Pig was neutered and in an amazing home getting adjusted and eventually bonding to a lovely lady pig. thank you for adopting Kathy! Thank you for fostering Lisa and family!

Salem the bun is living her best life with her new mom, Halle. Salem is friendly and social, whereas her mom's previous bun wasn't. They both are enjoying their new life together. Thank you for adopting Halle! Thank you for fostering Erin!

Reggie + Zip are living like the little princes they are in their decked out habitat. Hailey filled out an application wanting a pair, once we chatted - Reggie + Zip were the ones. Thank you for adopting Hailey! (love the purple lights) and thank you for fostering Gianna!

Mocha was surrendered as her owner was moving. She was so shut down when she arrived to. Sydney filled out an application for another bun, we got to chatting and Mocha was her girl, and that she is! Mocha is shining so bright in her new home. Thank you for adopting Sydney!

We're starting the new year plus 3, as this trio was left behind when their owners moved

2 males and 1 female. Although they were separated, the female is quite large- we will assume pregnant until otherwise.

Thankfully while the landlord looked for placement they were cared for as best as possible. We gave all nail trims too.

We are so grateful to be connected with you here on fb and thank you for your support and belief in our mission. It has been a busy year of rescue and adoption of amazing creatures that have found great new homes. We took in 84 guinea pigs, 52 rabbits, and 3 dogs, resulting in 103 adoptions ❤

Look who we just picked up! Huni & Buni. These 2

Look who we just picked up! Huni & Buni. These 2 cuties are so darling. Huni is in great shape, Buni has a bad ear infection and is being treated. X-rays were clear, thank goodness. We dis send out an EC panel, too. Buni will be on meds for a few weeks to clear up her infection, and then we will have them spayed.

Giant thanks to Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital for their amazing care of these 2 cuties. We couldn't do this without you. Lisa, thank you for being their angel and transporting them.

If you would like to help support their care or the 8 guinea pigs we have taken in over the past week who need wellness exams, we would be so grateful. No amout is too small, and every penny goes directly to the animals.

After we met transport for the guinea pigs, we learned there's a pair of lops that were strays and might have both possible head + back injuries that need help

Great big huge thanks to Meghan, Mike and Volunteer Lisa at Chicago Animal Care and Control who helped us coordinate immediate transport to our friends Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital who said YES when we called hoping we could have the buns brought in immediately.

To say we are ever grateful to this team of caring and compassionate animal lovers all coming together is an understatement, all the more on Christmas Eve, Eve.

We will keep you posted as we learn more.
